Last week, students completed the Georgia Student Survey where they answer questions about a number of topics that impact a school’s climate. The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, school administrators will allow parents to complete the Georgia Parent Survey at school. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.
Odyssey is a 6-week summer program (5-weeks for Odyssey High) held on the campus of The Westminster Schools. Students selected to attend Odyssey are enrolled at schools in the Atlanta area and will be in grades 1 through 12 in the school year following the Odyssey summer. All expenses to attend Odyssey — from transportation to and from The Westminster Schools, to school supplies, to snacks and lunch — are provided through the generosity of our donors and supporters. Odyssey strives to create an engaging educational environment that gives students the ability to excel in the upcoming school year and beyond, and to find value and excitement in classroom learning.
Is your student interested in who would be interested in interacting with the public and sharing their knowledge of natural history? Applications have just opened up for the 2017-2018 volunteer season. We provide training to help the students learn about natural history topics and how to interact with museum guests of all ages. Applications are due by March 1, 2017. Below is a little more information about the program to give you some background on our teen volunteer program.
The Fernbank Ultimate Naturalist (FUN) volunteer program, is an opportunity for youth to be directly involved in public events and education at Fernbank Museum. FUN volunteers run discovery carts, sharing information about biology, archaeology, paleontology, nanotechnology, and more with visitors of all ages. They also help with educational programming in the Naturalist Center, activities on special family event days, other special projects, and have opportunities to tour and visit behind the scenes.
The FUN program is a one-year commitment (June – May) and teens are required to volunteer at least 45 hours per year, which works out to be about once a month during the school year and twice a month in the summer. Volunteer ages range from 12 years old (must be 13 before Sept 1, 2017) to 17 years old. Volunteers age out of the program when they graduate high school or when they are 18 years old at the start of the next FUN year (June). The FUN program is very competitive, accepting applications once a year and interviewing and accepting a select number of applicants.
The PTA needs you for a short-term commitment! We need some volunteers for the PTA Nominating Committee which is responsible for talking with and evaluating candidates for next year’s officers and proposing a slate for election at the May meeting. You only have a limited amount of time? Then this is a the perfect opportunity for you! It’s only a few meetings between February and May – but such an important role to help us choose future Inman PTA leaders. Please email for more information.
The PTO operating budget needs your generous tax-deductible support by September 30! The suggested amount is $100 per child at Inman, but any amount is appreciated. Any amount over $20 includes a PTO family membership. $10 includes a PTO individual membership.JOIN / DONATE
